Fifth Grader Shares Pot Gummiesby Mariah Tso '21 A fifth-grader was suspended from school after handing out edible gummies to 4th graders and classmates. The gummies were filled with marijuana. She took them from her parents who stored them in a box. She gave them out at her school (Albuquerque School of Excellence). She gave them to the students most likely thinking there were just gummies but were edibles. The dean, Kristi Del Curto, says four students ate one gummy and the student who passed out the candy ate three or four pieces.Paramedics were called to monitor students until the effects faded. The students who took them say they had no clue. THC gummies can be two to 100 times more potent than traditional marijuana. Del Curto says they called 911 and paramedics monitored all the students to make sure they were not having a dangerous reaction. The Dean of Elementary Students says she doesn’t believe the girl knew she was passing out drugs at school. The children were sent home after being checked by paramedics. The paramedics have checked on every student that had eaten a gummies to make sure they were okay . But now, the school is urging parents to be cautious with any drugs in their homes. http://bgr.com/2018/01/25/weed-gummies-in-school-wtf/ https://www.abqjournal.com/1120923/officials-5th-grader-mistakenly-gave-pot-candy-in-school.html http://krqe.com/2018/01/17/5th-grader-unknowingly-passes-out-pot-edibles-to-schoolmates/ Utah Shooter Apprehendedby Shawn McCraith '18 A man that has shot at police and led them on a chase was arrested late Wednesday afternoon when he crashed into a police car. Detectives and cops were on the lookout for Justin Llewelyn, 33, who had been reported to be “armed and extremely dangerous” because early that morning he shot at police including another man near the Riverton-Herriman border which is located in Central Utah. Llewelyn was spotted and identified by police officers in a stolen gray pick-up truck and crashed into a tow truck in Spanish Fork at the end of the pursuit. Law enforcement leaders which included Salt Lake County Sheriff Rosie Rivera said “It really created a panic in the community, so I’m really happy we took him off the street.” Both the officer chasing Llewelyn and Llewelyn himself were injured in the high speed chase which was about 10-miles long but they are not believed to be any in life-threatening condition. Early Saturday morning, Justin Llewelyn opened fire on two police officers who were looking to question him but then he broke into a home, shot a man, and stole the man’s truck. The victim is expected to be out of the hospital later in the week. The police searched the home of nearby relatives of Justin and arrested two ladies, Tasha Llewelyn and Misty Llewelyn, who were believed to have lied about the case. A telephone warrant showed that the two women knew about the suspect’s involvement with the case. Justin Llewelyn has had a criminal history for the past 15 years that include convictions for DUI, felony drug possession, aggravated assault, joyriding and various other offenses. https://www.ksl.com/?sid=46244958&nid=148&title=police-arrest-man-wanted-in-connection-with-riverton-shooting http://www.good4utah.com/news/local-news/herriman-shooting-suspect-captured-in-utah-county/937518056 http://www.heraldextra.com/news/local/crime-and-courts/suspect-in-herriman-shooting-apprehended-in-spanish-fork/article_0490e1c9-bf1c-5406-8346-6ee54b8c1744.html California Uber Driver Charged With Rapeby Lucia Kezele '18 Alfonso Alarcon-Nunez was illegally in the United States and working for the ride sharing company Uber.
