March Madness Set to Start Thursday
By Zach Wargo 20'
It happens every year, with the college basketball season coming to a close the annual NCAA Tournament is now set. The number 1 seeds for the tournament were a lock coming into when the teams were selected. Virginia, Villanova, Kansas, and Xavier were all rewarded with tremendous seasons. The field of 68 was set in a span of half an hour, and there were questions for the seeding, as with Arizona getting a 4 seed, and Oklahoma, Arizona St, and Syracuse. The questions were is they did get it right, as they were the last 3 teams in the tournament with mediocre records. Every year the tournament never fails to repeat, with major upsets, buzzer beaters, and of course the tournament ending in one shining moment.
Two years ago the tournament showed us everything, with buzzer beaters, and one of the greatest title games of all time, with a game-winning buzzer beating national title for Villanova over North Carolina. Which last year the Tar Heels had gotten revenge on the field of 68 by defeating Gonzaga in the national title game, and winning their sixth title in it’s school history. March Madness has presented us with unforgettable moments, which is one reason why sports fans love it so much.
In this year’s tournament Duke, Villanova, Virginia, and North Carolina are the favorites to win this year’s title, as Arizona and Michigan St is are other people’s dark horses this year. With the countries top team, the Virginia Cavaliers have the best defense in the country, which is what makes them a heavy favorite. Although Virginia a favorite, Duke and Villanova is not far behind them, as they are looking to have a deep run in March and hoist the trophy in San Antonio.
March Madness is like christmas for most sports fans, with bracket pools, and the feat to have a perfect bracket, as people love March for this event every year. The Madness starts March 13th, with the first four, as 1st round play begins March 15th.
