Cross Country Runners Take Tohatchi Invite

The Cross Country runners of Gallup High competed this past Friday on August 25th in the Tohatchi Invite. The eight teams that participated in the event were Tse Yi Gai, Tohatchi, Alamo Navajo, Navajo Pine, Crownpoint, Ramah, and Gallup. The Varsity Girls razed the competition with the 1st place win while the Varsity Boys narrowly snagged the win by one point. The top five runners of Varsity boys times was Shawn McCraith (19:38), Brandon James (20:20), Dustin Long (20:26), Rylie Begay (20:47), and Ilijah Lester (20:52). Jessica Ramirez, a senior at Gallup High had a lengthy lead with a remarkable time of 21:13, the other top four runners were Celine Nez (25:13), Bailey Tom (25:23), Hunter Livingston (25:24), and Katelynn Thompson (25:34). Junior Varsity also attained 1st place with no competition from the other schools in either the boys or girls category. The next meet will be in Arizona, on September 9th at Canyon De Chelly with Gallup running against the Chinle Wildcats and other schools from Arizona.
Bengals Breeze Past Bernallio

After another turnover, Blueeyes engineered an 84 yard drive and carrying the ball in from 28 yards extending the score to 27-0. In the last two minutes of the game it was time for the defense to get into scoring and in those two minutes Kobe Chee came up with an interception running 70 yards back scoring the final touchdown of the game, having the Bengals pull out a 33-0 and having them start the season 1-0. Next week Gallup is set to play Thoreau at home on September 8th.
The Blazing Bengals, Interview with Tommy Halter

I interviewed 9th grader Tommy Halter and asked him a couple questions about the game against Bernalillo. I asked him a few questions.
Question: How do you think you performed during the game against Bernalillo Friday night?
Halter: You know it’s a win but there's stuff i can improve on but i think i did alright.
Question: How do you plan to improve or continue to do next game?
Halter: It comes down to hard work on and off the field, you know on some days I go and left and then study all my plays so when it is time to go on the field I am ready.
Question: How did you prepare for Friday nights game against Bernalillo?
Halter: I try to get my mindset ready and just take advantage of my opportunities so I can prepare for the upcoming games.
Question: What did you learn from the game and what to do next time?
Halter: I learned that you don't get many opportunities in football so just take advantage of them and next time I will.
Question: What was your favorite part of the game against Bernalillo?
Question: How does it feel to be a freshman on a varsity team?
Halter: Oh man, it's awesome! I dreamed about making varsity and when I did it, it was great but now I just need to keep working hard and show doubters why I deserve to be on varsity.
