Manhattan Mobile Attackby Christina Maldonado '19 On Tuesday, October thirty-first, there was a violent attack in New York City. The attack happened on a bike path alongside the Hudson River. Twenty-nine-year-old Sayfullo Saipov was the one behind the attack. The deaths were from Saipov; he drove a pickup truck into the bike route that he got from Home Depot in New Jersey.
Eight people died in New York that day, and about twelve people were injured. Out of those twelve people, there were five Argentine citizens killed. Those citizens were Hernan Diego Mendoza, Diego Enrique Angelini, Alejandro Damian Pagnucco, Ariel Erlij and Hernan Ferruchi. The others consisted of at least one Belgian, and two Americans. The Argentine citizens were surrounded by a variety of friends who were visiting New York to celebrate their thirtieth anniversary of their high school graduation. Those killed came from a few blocks away from the attack location, such as a few thousand miles away. The people were Nicholas Cleves from downtown Manhattan, and Darren Drake of New Milford, New Jersey. The police say that the attack has connections with subjects of terrorism. The police say that when they searched the vehicle, there were a numerous amount of knives in and around the truck. The west side highway near the bike lane was closed for investigation. This attack is one of the deadliest attacks in New York City since September eleventh, of two thousand and one. The driver also hit a school bus near Stuyvesant High School at speeds around sixty miles per hour. The attacker got out the vehicle with a pellet gun, and paintball gun while shouting, “Allahu akbar”, which is Arabic,and translates to “god is great” in English.
