Candle Lighting for Lisa Romero Munizby Haley Oliver '21 On October 1, 2017, Lisa Romero Muniz was one of the 59 people killed. She had attended the Route 91 Harvest Festival, during the Jason Aldean concert. When Steph Paddock’s, Las Vegas shooter, had killed 59 people and injured over 400 people. Romero Muniz had worked for Gallup Mckinley County Schools (GMCS) since 2003. She had been working as a disciplinary teacher at Miyamura High School. She had a huge impact of the students and everyone else she knew. October 2, 2017, Vigil candle lighting was held at Miyamura High School (MHS) at 8:00 p.m. in honor of Lisa Romero- Muniz. Many students, colleagues, family members, and community members joined each other at the candle lighting. A memorial keeps growing, speeches are heard by students, and staff members share stories. How they felt...Alizay Chavez (9th grade)Question: How does it feel to beat the PARCC test? Answer: I don’t know, normal? I am used to it. Question: What is your advice for students to take the test? Answer: Nap times. Question: Was the test easy or hard? Which subject was more difficult? Reading, Math, or Science? Answer: Very easy. For me, math. We weren’t learning the math that was on that test. Lynzee Zahne (9th grade)Question: How does it feel to beat the PARCC test? Answer: First of all, I didn’t know I passed. I never expected the unexpected. Question: What is your advice for students to take the test? Answer: Whatever you do during test, sleep for 15 minutes to recharge your mind.” “Don’t think to hard on the question. Question: Was the test easy or hard? Which subject was more difficult? Reading, Math, or Science? Answer: It was easy for me but, might be hard for other students. The subjects were not hard. Raechelle Sandoval (12th grade)Question: How does it feel to beat the PARCC test? Answer: It’s kind of relieving because there was a lot of pressure to beat it. Question: What is your advice for students to take the test? Answer: Don’t stress over it too much, just try to learn it throughout the year and do what you can. Question: Was the test easy or hard? Which subject was more difficult? Reading, Math, or Science? Answer: Mostly easy, math and science are always hard because I didn’t go through most of it throughout the year. Question: Are you happy that you don’t have to take the PARCC test? Answer: Yeah, because it’s one less thing to worry about this year. Sage Addington (12th grade)Question: How does it feel to beat the PARCC test? Answer: Really good because I didn’t know I passed the PARCC until the announcement. Question: What is your advice for students to take the test? Answer: Get lots of sleep, eat breakfast, and make sure you don’t eat sugar for breakfast. Question: Was the test easy or hard? Which subject was more difficult? Reading, Math, or Science? Answer: I thought it was fairly hard. English was easy for me, although I swear I failed the math portion. Question: Are you happy that you don’t have to take the PARCC test? Answer: Yes, I am very happy about that. Shawn McCraith (12th grade)Question: How does it feel to beat the PARCC test? Answer: It feels okay. I didn’t know I passed it. I forgot all about it. Question: What is your advice for students to take the test? Answer: Study, focus on the core of teaching. Science, math, and reading. Focus. Question: Was the test easy or hard? Which subject was more difficult? Reading, Math, or Science? Answer: I think it was easy because I don’t remember it at all. Science was difficult for me. Question: Are you happy that you don’t have to take the PARCC test? Answer: Yes I am happy because it’s one less test to worry about. These two pictures are of the V wing, located next to C wing. In these pictures you can definitely tell the V wing is very different than the other halls in the school. This hall is where all the previous pictures were taken. When you look at these two pictures you'll definitely get the sense that this hallway is special, you really get the sense of this because of the name and the signs.
